Texas U.S. Representative Morgan Luttrell not running for re-election
Luttrell is the brother of 'Lone Survivor' Marcus Luttrell.
Morgan Luttrell is Republican a member of the United States House of Representatives from the 8th District of Texas. He has announced that he does not intend to stand for re-election in 2026.
Luttrell initially won his seat in 2022 after having been a staffer for then-U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry. He was re-elected last year. Currently, Luttrell is the Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs.
Luttrell and his brother Marcus both served in the United States military, each becoming a Navy SEAL. Marcus Luttrell gained international attention for being the last surviving member of his team on a mission gone wrong during Operation Red Wings of the War in Afghanistan. For his actions during the operation, Luttrell received the Navy Cross - second only to the Medal of Honor - along with a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart. He eventually retired as a Petty Officer First Class.
For his part, Morgan sustained severe brain and spinal cord injuries in a helicopter crash during a training mission. He would reach the rank of Lieutenant before retiring from the Navy.
Morgan Luttrell is a native of Houston, Texas. He graduated from high school in nearby Willis, followed by Sam Houston State University and the University of Texas at Dallas. Luttrell has two sons with his wife Leslie.
