Longtime Wyoming State Representative John Eklund Jr. dies from cancer
Eklund chaired several committees during his career.
John Eklund Jr. was a member of the Wyoming House of Representatives from the 10th District. He passed away on November 14, 2025.
Eklund had been undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer. Among those to issues remarks in his memory have been Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon Mark Gordon, current House Speaker Chip Neiman and ex-Speaker Steve Harshman.
In 2010, Eklund won a seat in the House as a Republican for the first time, succeeding former Majority Whip Rodney Anderson. He would be re-elected to his seat seven times.
John Eklund Jr. was a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming. He graduated from high school in nearby Albin. Competing in multiple sports for the school, he won a state championship in high jump in 1970. Afterward, Eklund obtained a degree from the University of Wyoming.
Eklund had three daughters with his wife Suzi. Two of them became state champion track athletes, while the other is married to former House Majority Whip Matt Teeters.
