Longtime Texas U.S. Representative Marc Veasey running for Tarrant County Judge
Veasey was previously a State Representative.
Marc Veasey is a senior Democratic politician in Texas and has held offices at the state and federal levels. Veasey is now turning his attention to more localized affairs.
Veasey has announced his candidacy to be the Judge of Tarrant County, Texas. The position is the highest-ranking government office in the county. It marks a change of plans for Veasey, who’d previously launched a campaign for another term in the United States House of Representatives.
In 2012, Veasey was elected to the U.S. House for the first time from the newly created 33rd District of Texas. Prior to that, he was a staffer for U.S. Representative and House Rules Committee Ranking Member Martin Frost. In 2004, Veasey won the first of four bids for the Texas House of Representatives in the 95th District after defeating incumbent Glenn Lewis in the Democratic primary.
A native of Fort Worth, Marc Veasey graduated from Arlington Heights High School and Texas Wesleyan University. Before going into politics, he was a sports journalist, including for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. His uncle Robert English was also a prominent journalist and later a staffer for U.S. Speaker of the House Jim Wright.
In 2004, Veasey married Tonya Jackson, who has also been a political aide. They have a son, Adam.
