Longtime Colorado U.S. Representative Diana DeGette defeated for re-election in Democratic primary
DeGette is the Ranking Member of the House Energy Subcommittee on Health.

Diana DeGette has been serving in Congress for nearly 30 years. But it seems that that particular chapter of her life might be coming to a conclusion.
Multiple outlets are reporting that DeGette has lost the Democratic nomination in her re-election bid for the United States House of Representatives. The nod has instead gone to Melat Kiros, a political newcomer who immigrated to the United States with her parents from Ethiopia shortly after her birth.
In 1992, DeGette won her first elected office when she earned a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives from 6th District. She won another campaign for the State House in 1994 before scoring a spot in the U.S. House from the 1st District of Colorado in 1996. DeGette would be re-elected to Congress 14 times.
Diana DeGette was born in Tachikawa near Tokyo, Japan, where her father was stationed while serving in the U.S. military. She graduated from South High School in Denver, Colorado and from Colorado College and the New York University School of Law.
Since 1985, DeGette has been married to Lino Lipinski, a Judge of the Colorado Court of Appeals. The couple have two daughters.
