Longtime California U.S. Representative Julia Brownley announces her retirement
Brownley is the Ranking Member of the House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Health.
Julia Brownley is a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives. She has announced that she will not seek re-election to Congress this year.
Brownley first won her seat from the Los Angeles-area 26th District of California in 2012. She has been re-elected six times in the years since then.
In 1994, Brownley joined the unified Board of Education for Santa Monica and Malibu. She would later serve as President of the board on three occasions. Brownley was elected to the California State Assembly from the 41st District and won two more campaigns before maxing out her term limits.
A native of Aiken, South Carolina near the Georgia border, Julia Brownley attended Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, Virginia, an all-girls boarding school in the Charlottesville region. She earned degrees from George Washington University and American University.
