Longtime California U.S. Representative Doug LaMalfa dies suddenly
LaMalfa was Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Forestry and Horticulture.

Doug LaMalfa was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives. He died during the early morning hours of January 6, 2026.
The night prior, LaMalfa had been rushed to a hospital after experiencing an apparent aortic aneurysm. He was taken in for an emergency surgery as a result, but suffered a heart attack on the operating table.
LaMalfa was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the Sacramento-area 1st District of California in 2012 and he was re-elected six times afterward. Prior to that, he’d won a seat in the California State Senate from the 4th District in 2010 and on three occasions in the State Assembly.
A native of Oroville, Douglas Lee LaMalfa graduated from high school in nearby Biggs, California. He later attended Butte College and California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. LaMalfa had four children with his wife Jill.
