Iowa State Senator Rocky De Witt dies of pancreatic cancer
He had previously been a local politician.
Rocky De Witt was a Republican member of the Iowa Senate. He died on June 25, 2025 after having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Officials on a bi-partisan basis have been issuing memorial statements for De Witt. Republicans to do so include Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, State Senate President Amy Sinclair and Majority Leader Jack Whitver and U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson. Democratic tributes have been led by State Senate Minority Leader Janice Weiner.
De Witt was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2022 from the 1st District near the Nebraska and South Dakota borders. Prior to that, he was a member and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Woodbury County, Iowa.
Rocky De Witt was a native of Sioux Falls, Iowa. He graduated from high school in nearby Lawton. Outside of politics, he worked for the MidAmerican Energy Company and the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office.
