Former Rhode Island Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey nominated for state judgeship
McCaffrey was nominated by Governor Dan McKee.
Michael McCaffrey was a powerful state legislator in Rhode Island before returning to private life. But McCaffrey may be on his way back to becoming a public official.
McCaffrey has been nominated by Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee to be a Judge of the Rhode Island District Court. He must be confirmed by the Rhode Island Senate to officially take a spot on the bench.
Previously, McCaffrey was a longtime member of the Senate, first elected from the 16th District in 1994. A Democrat McCaffrey was later moved to the 29th District and eventually became the Senate’s Majority Leader in 2017. He retired from the legislature in 2023.
Michael McCaffrey is a native of Providence, Rhode Island and a graduate of Providence College and Suffolk University Law School. He has four children with his wife Deirdre.
