Former Majority Leader Lyman Hoffman announces his retirement from the Alaska State Senate
Lyman is the longest-serving member in the history of the Alaska State Legislature.
Lyman Hoffman has been a legislator in Alaska for a historic length of time. A centrist Democrat, he has been a key member of multiple bi-partisan coalitions. Recently, Hoffman announced his impending exit from politics.
Hoffman has declared that he does not intend to stand as a candidate for re-election to his seat in the Alaska State Senate, nor does he plan to run for any other political office. The seat in question is slated to be up for a vote next year.
After beginning his career in government as the City Manager of Bethel, Hoffman was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives for the first time in 1986. In the decades since then, he has gone back and forth between serving in the House and the Senate. From 2019 to 2021, he was the Majority Leader of the Senate.
Lyman Hoffman is a graduate of the University of Alaska. He has been married to his wife Lillian since 1972 and they have two children.
