Ex-Louisiana State Representative Paul Hollis nominated to be Director of the United States Mint
He is currently a member of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Paul Hollis is a noted enthusiast of collector coins. Before going into politics, he made the subject his career path, garnering the title of numismatist. He may now be headed for the top job for coin production in the United States government.
Hollis has been nominated to be the Director of the U.S. Mint, pending confirmation by the U.S. Senate. The United States Mint’s responsibilities include the creation and control of the country’s currency and commemorative coins, production of the Congressional Gold Medal and overseeing movement of bullion.
In 2011, Hollis was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives from the 104th District as a Republican for the first time. He later won two more House campaigns. Along the way, he was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2014 before withdrawing from the race. Term limited from another bid for the State House, Hollis won a seat on the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education in 2023.
A native of the New Orleans, Louisiana suburb of Metairie, Paul Hollis is the youngest son of former longtime State Senator Ken Hollis. He graduated from Grace King High School, followed by Louisiana State University. Hollis has two children with his wife Ashley Tastet and holds a black belt in karate.
